Getting started

We all know that raising money to come somewhere like Nexus can be a challenge and so when you are accepted on to a course, we send out a student fundraising pack. It provides tips and suggestions about how to raise money to help you with all your costs whilst at Nexus.

“Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything-by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving-present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.” Phil.4:6-7

What is a support network and why do I need one?

Whether or not you need financial support for your year at Nexus, developing a network of friends and family who are taking an interest in your life and praying for you while you are at Nexus is vital. You will face many challenges in the year ahead and the support of these people will be important. So a support network is not purely for financial reasons!

In the Kingdom of God we are not called to live in isolation but in community. Developing a network of supporters is a kingdom way to live. It is important for you to have a long-term view on this network of supporters – they may only support you financially for a year, but you will have a connection and friendship with them well beyond this year. You therefore need to think about not only asking them for money, but building and continuing to develop a two-way relationship with them. Make the decision now to be willing to be vulnerable with them, to share what is on your heart, what your worries or concerns are, as well as sharing with them the things you are praising God for. As they share in your joys and sorrows, and you in theirs, your relationship will deepen.

You also need to keep in mind that in the kingdom of God it is a blessing to give (Acts 20:35). Everything we have belongs to God. God calls us as believers to demonstrate that we believe this by giving, often sacrificially. It can be hard to ask for or accept support from others, particularly if you have never lived this way before. But keep in mind that as others willingly give to you, God will bless them for their faithfulness.
