The live playing workshops are a great opportunity for students to apply theĀ skills they haveĀ been learning in their instrument classes in a fully equipped live performance venue complete with full range P.A and programmable lighting system.
Students will be placed in bands that they will work with throughout the year on various tasks and projects. These bands quickly become little communities themselves; smaller microcosms of the larger community aspect in the school.
The purpose of the LPWs is to challenge students in the area of self confidence and performance with a view to being able to accurately represent themselves in how they perform. It is not about learning to fake a performance but about learning to find genuine points of connection between the heart and the music being played. From there flows a connection that has an outward expression in a performance setting.
Students will be set regular tasks to work through in their bands, will be given help inrehearsing and then perform live in our live performance auditoruim. They will learn correct sound check technique and ettiquette and will be observed and then critiqued by staff members on every aspect of their performance, from song choice and lyrical content through to technique and choice in sounds.
Students will be then given a written summary of their LPW session so that they can track their progress week to week.
Typical assignments include performing original material, constructing a pop medley for a given audience, re-working a classic well known song in a different style and re-arranging a song for a 'live lounge' type of setting.
Christmas & graduation concerts are a big part of the year in which all students are actively involved.
