The Nexus Vocal Course is designed to develop students into godly musicians who can express their hearts through their voice and the whole of their lives. Whether it is a performance in a venue or leading a corporate time of worship, we train to honour the Lord with excellence and passion. We have all been created with unique voices and have the opportunity to explore and develop these throughout the year.
The Vocal Course has 5 core classes each week. These are taught in the vocal classroom. The aim behind these classes is to give vocalists the ability to use their voices in engaging and expressive ways. You will have the chance to increase your technical skills and develop your confidence in a range of playing environments. These core classes cover: Technique, Styles, Theory, Ensemble and General Musicianship. Within these areas of study, students will acquire all the tools necessary to become well-rounded and creative musicians.
Alex Scott

Alex began singing from a young age. He has been involved in choirs since he was 10 years old, and later was in various bands, close harmony groups, and musical theater.
He came to Nexus in 2001 to study Vocals. He had little idea how one year of his life would have such an impact on his future. After his second year, fueling his passion for God, learning new skills and developing his expression of a love for God, he began writing, gigging, recording and touring. (Playing in a cinema, in Kiev with the band ECHOSTAR must be the craziest gig yet)
This video shows one of our first year bands performing in a live playing workshop. (LPW) The students were given the task of re-working a track so that it would be suitable for an MTV unplugged / Radio 1 live lounge type of setting. We thought the arrangement was particularly creative and the vocalists did a great job arranging four part harmonies. Enjoy!
This clip is taken from the Staff Concert 2010, and features vocal tutor, Alex Scott, singing and playing piano. It's a vulnerable song with a theme that's important to us; about community and having strong roots.
