Matthew Cossey

Matthew first came to Nexus as a student back in 2004 and never quite managed to leave! With a playing ability and an understanding of music that far exceeded his years Matthew was trained up ‘in house’ and now exercises his love for teaching having taken on the Piano & Keys department back in 2007.
Matthew joined Nexus with a wealth of musical experience, having enjoyed regular gigs in numerous bands and scenarios. Since coming to Nexus he has continued to pursue excellence, studying and playing alongside many top professionals. Be it Jazz, Gospel, Blues, Pop, Rock or classical music, Matthew has the ability to fit into any playing scenario and loves opening up how different styles of music work to his students.
Whatever your musical background and education the course will challenge you and develop you into musicians who are able to express and play confidently in any scenario. In the video below you can hear from Naomi who studied on the course in 2009/2010. Naomi, like many others, had a classical background but wanted to develop her ear and learn to play without the need of a score.

This is a short clip from one of our staff concert performances. This unrehearsed improvisation shows Keys tutor Matt Cossey performing an introduction to 'Fallin' by Alicia Keys. At Nexus we are passionate about developing students into mature musicians and followers of Christ who are able to express themselves and God through their instruments. Whether you are a talented keyboardist, or a highly trained classical piano player, the course will help you grow into a creative musician who can accurately express God through your instrument and your whole life.
