Born in 1987 in Nuneaton, Warwickshire, Sam first picked up a bass at the age of 13 to accompany his brother in an alternative three piece rock band called Mortimer. Nuneaton isn't particularly well known for its bursting music scene, however, it does have a good circuit of pubs and function suites that serve well for the local band. It was this circuit that allowed Sam to start gigging immediately and pick up the traits of the trade on-the-go.
Sam's first band, Mortimer, Strived to create music that went against obvious musical movements to produce something new that was surprising yet refreshing to the ears. This mentality quickly developed Sam as a musician who would listen out for musical possibilities rather than probabilities.
Sam studied at Nexus in 2005 with no particular long-term plans, but a view to invest in his musical and spiritual development. He stuck around until becoming the course tutor in 2008.
During these 3 years Sam has found a passion for playing all styles of music, but in particular, soul and jazz. Sam is part of a jazz quartet that has been actively involved in gigging in some of the most prestigious hotels and restaurants in the midlands. Sam has also had the priveledge of appearing with fusion guitarist Guthrie Govan, and has also worked with The Oxford Playhouse and Ocean Village Cruises.
Sam continues to push himself as a musician and pursue musical excellence, studying under Berklee tutor Oscar Stagnaro and session bass player John Thompson (Spice Girls, Will Young, Girls Aloud).
Sam was married in December of 2008 to his wife Emma.
