Tim Gordon

Drum Tutor
fac-tim
How long have you been at Nexus?
Since 2004. I came as an eager student and studied for a couple of years, then a few weeks into my third year (October 2006) the head of drums left and I took his job!

What is your favourite part about working at Nexus?
I get to talk about God and music every day.  I couldn’t ask for a better job than that!

What is the one thing you would like to do before you die?
There are a couple; my wife and I would like to take a (really) long holiday and travel from the east to west coast of America together.  I would also love to play drums in a stadium, ideally Wembley- to hear my bass drum resounding around the stadium shaking the seats would be amazing!
What is your major achievement to date?
I hold a Guinness world record for team endurance drumming – we played (all at once, not in a relay) continuously for 66 hours!
What do you enjoy doing in your spare time?
All kinds of sports; I play football and badminton most weeks and also enjoy cricket, tennis, basketball, table tennis, squash and American football.  A bit of everything really- if I’ve not tried it, I‘d like to!

What are people surprised to learn about you?
That I was only 22 when I got married.

If you could write a book, what would it be about?
Wow, if I could write?  Well it would probably be a fun and educational Children’s book titled ‘Equations for Bedtime’. I don’t see it winning a Booker prize.

What is currently on your itunes playlist?
Well I always have some Dave Matthews Band on there and at the moment I am working on some shuffle tracks that include Steely Dan, Toto, The Meters and Sting.  I am also really enjoying some Buddy Rich, in particular the ‘Big Swing Face’ album.

In two sentences or less, how has your faith changed you?
I used to love doing things for myself but now my aim with my skills is to build others up.  So, for example, in drumming I used to only be concerned with doing gigs and my own professional development. Now I can honestly say I am more excited about seeing my students develop to be better and more successful players than I ever will be.
