Can I sponsor a student through Nexus?
Yes. We can take cheques, bank transfers or a standing order can be set up. Payments can also be paid through CAF (a charity that money can be paid into and then allocated as someone requests).
Can Nexus claim Gift Aid on a student’s fees?
No. This is because the student would benefit from the gift aid rather than the charity. It’s a grey area, but we can not claim gift aid on student fees.
Am I eligible for any kind of government grant whilst studying at Nexus?
Because the course is not accredited, it is not acknowledged by the government for funding purposes. Due to the number of hours that students study in a week, and depending on parent’s circumstances, students may be entitled to some benefits. Students have had success in the past applying to charities and trusts for funding. (See fundraising pack for further advice relating to this).
Can I fundraise my money?
Yes! Once you are accepted onto our course at Nexus we send you a fundraising pack with several fundraising suggestions as well as grants you may be eligible for.
Am I eligible to receive housing benefit?
Yes. If a student is under the age of 19 on the course start date they are eligible for housing benefit up until their 21st birthday or until the course finishes, whichever is sooner. Once a student has started at Nexus, we will supply the relevant form and help them through the process of applying for housing benefit. Unfortunately this is only available for students who are from the UK. The information given is based on the experience of previous students at Nexus and information offered from Coventry City Council which is subject to change.
Will I be able to have a part time job whilst I’m at Nexus?
It is possible to hold down a part time job whilst studying, however, the demands of the course are very high, so it will require good time management and an ability to prioritise. We encourage students to exhaust all other avenues of support and fundraising before considering a part time job.
