Can I visit Nexus?
Yes.  Please see the Open Day section of our website.

Does Nexus offer part time courses?
No.  Nexus only offer full time courses.  Private lessons are available, please see the 'Can I get private lessons?' question.

How long does the course last?
The course runs as an academic year, starting in September and finishing in July.

What are the term dates?
The term dates for the 2010-2011 academic year:

Term 1 - 20th September to 11th December.  Half term week commencing 25th October.

Term 2 - 10th January to 8th April.  Half term week commencing 21st February.

Term 3 - 2nd May to 9th July.  Half term week commencing 30th May.

Is there an age limit?
The minimum age limit is 16.  There is no upper age limit, each year we often get a handful of mature students in their mid to late 20’s, we have had people on the course in their late 30’s, even 40.  We interview each applicant on an individual basis, taking into consideration their suitability for the course, we wouldn’t turn an applicant down simply due to age.

I can’t make it to an Open Day, can I still apply?
Yes.  If you definitely cannot make it to an Open Day you still need to submit your application form, application fee and three references.  In some instances it may be possible to visit on a day other than an open day, this would need to be arranged through our admin department: This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. How do I apply for an interview?
You can apply online or by post.

Online applications:
Go to the “Apply Now” tab on the right hand side of the Nexus Home Page. Follow the instructions carefully.  You will also need to send in a £15.00 application fee, or contact us for the bank details to make an online transfer. Please ensure that you include email contacts for all your references. Once we have received all of the above we will be able to offer you an interview. Please make sure to have all of your information in at least 2 weeks prior to the Open Day you wish to attend.

Postal application:
Go to the “Apply Now” tab on the right hand side of the Nexus Home Page.  Download the pdf for the course you want to apply for.  Fill in your application and send it in along with your £15 application fee.  Please ensure that you include email contacts for all your references. Once we have received all of the above we will be able to offer you an interview. Please make sure to have all of your information in at least 2 weeks prior to the Open Day you wish to attend.

What happens in an interview?
The tutor of the instrument you are applying for will review your application with you and listen to your audition pieces. You will receive more information about this once we have received your completed application.

What qualifications or experience do I need to apply for Nexus?
On applying we require at least a basic understanding of the instrument intended to study, but there is no set standard of ability as the course caters for a mixed range of ability.

How many hours a week do students study for?

How many students attend each year?
We accept between 60 and 80 first years each year.

Can I study two instruments?
No.  Each course is full time and therefore students would not have the time to be able to study on two different courses.

Can International Students apply?
We are working through an accreditation process at the moment, but we are not currently able to offer student visa’s to applicants outside of the EU.

Do you offer online courses
No.  However we are producing more online content all the time and plan to have some lessons available online.  Keep checking the Media section of the site to see what resources we have to offer.

Do I get to play in a band?
Yes.  All the courses are designed to shape students into well rounded musicians and having a musical outlet for this is imperative.  To this end we put students in a band that will be given different assignments and tasks throughout the year.  You will perform on our concert stage during our Live Playing Workshop, where you will receive insight and instruction from your tutor.

Do you only enrol students once a year, or am I able to start the course part way through the year?
Nexus has one intake in September.  See 'term dates' for more details.
